Nov 17 NCAA Baskteball Odds: No 18 Texas A&M at Mississippi State
Thursday, November 17, 2011
Frank Martin
Texas A&M Aggies won’t have leading scorer Khris Middleton for the next four weeks, but the No. 18-ranked Aggies got their head coach back last weekend. The Aggies welcomed head coach Billy Kennedy – out on medical leave after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in October – back to the bench for Sunday’s 83-58 victory over Southern, and Kennedy may make the trip to New York for Thursday’s game with Mississippi State Bulldogs in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer in Madison Square Garden.
Middleton tore the meniscus in his knee in a season-opening victory over Liberty and will miss the next three weeks. Mississippi State has won two of its first three games, bouncing back from a loss to Akron with an 80-65 victory Saturday over South Alabama.

Texas A&M Aggies (2-0): Hot shooting and big leads mark the first two games of the season for the Aggies, the preseason pick to win the Big 12. Texas A&M ranks seventh in the nation in field-goal percentage after shooting a combined 61 percent in its two victories. The loss of Middleton is a big void to fill; the junior averaged 14.4 points last season. Texas A&M cruised to easy victories over Liberty and Southern in the Aggies’ first two games, winning by an average of 23.5 points.
Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-1): A groin injury sidelined Renardo Sidney in the victory over South Alabama, but center Arnett Moultrie took full advantage. Moultrie scored a career-high 28 points and pulled down 13 rebounds against South Alabama, and is averaging 16.3 points and 12.3 rebounds through three games with two double-doubles. Mississippi State has deployed three- and four-guard sets without Sidney, and the quickness of that lineup has given opponents trouble.
1.
The two programs are both in their
100th season of college basketball.
2. Mississippi State’s Dee Bost is 55 assists away from breaking
Derrick Zimmerman’s school record of 514.
3. Texas
A&M associate head coach Glynn Cyprien has led the Aggies in Kennedy’s
absence.
